The Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference named three University of Mary women’s soccer figures to major awards Wednesday, Nov. 4, including Dina Polanco as Offensive Player of the Year, Ivy Wessel as Newcomer of the Year and Sarah Cook as Coach of the Year, according to a University of Mary Athletics announcement. The announcement also said five Marauders received All-NSIC honors.

Polanco and Chloe Brand were named to the All-NSIC First Team, while Wessel, Kadyn Dilger and Harlee Peltz were selected for the second team, according to the university. The announcement said this was the first time a Marauder had received the conference’s Player of the Year and Coach of the Year awards, and that the conference title was also a program first.

Polanco, a forward, led the NSIC in conference play with 17 goals and 35 points, including seven game-winning goals, the university reported. She also set University of Mary NCAA records with 20 goals and 42 points for the season, according to the announcement.

Wessel, a defender who joined the Marauders after playing at Loras College, recorded one goal and three assists in NSIC games, the university said. The team allowed an average of 0.67 goals per conference game, the league’s second-lowest rate, and recorded eight shutouts in 15 NSIC games, according to the announcement.

Cook led the Marauders to a 12-1-2 conference record and 38 points, both school single-season records, the university said. UMary finished the conference season on a program-record 13-match unbeaten streak and earned a home playoff berth for the first time since 2008, according to the announcement.
