The University of Mary announced Oct. 19 in Bismarck a new three-year sponsorship and mentorship program for construction students, according to the university.
The program is open to Construction Management students and Construction Engineering students pursuing project-management careers, the university said. Participants will work with the same sponsoring company over three summers, with responsibilities progressing from field operations after freshman year to coordination and basic management in the second summer, then toward project management in the third, according to the announcement.
Each summer includes an industry mentor, defined learning objectives and University of Mary oversight, the university said. After a student accepts a company’s offer and successfully completes the summer experience, the company’s investment for that year becomes a scholarship available the following fall; wages and benefits are negotiated separately with the company, according to the announcement.
Miller Insulation is among the first companies participating, the university said. The university is recruiting its first group of sponsoring companies and says interested businesses can visit the program webpage. No application deadline or student contact details were provided in the announcement.
