The University of Mary Concert Band will perform “Journey Through the Classics” at 3 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 25, in Founders Hall of the Lumen Vitae University Center on the university campus, according to a University of Mary announcement. The free concert is open to the public, the university said.

The university said the fall concert will celebrate Dennis Gowen’s 40 years of teaching and musical leadership at Mary. Gowen, a professor of music, Music Department chair, and director of bands and high brass, has led the Concert Band during that time and directed an estimated 1,250 to 1,500 students, according to the announcement.

The program includes works by Ralph Vaughan Williams, George Gershwin, Vincent Persichetti, Robert Sheldon, Malcolm Arnold, W. Francis McBeth and Ole Bull, the university said. The announcement says the concert will include McBeth’s “Kaddish” in recognition of America’s 250th anniversary, and a performance of Ole Bull’s “Sæterjentens Søndag” featuring the Concert Band’s flute section.

The performance begins at 3 p.m. Oct. 25 in Founders Hall at the Lumen Vitae University Center, according to the university. Admission is free, and the public is welcome.
