The North Dakota Department of Transportation announced Monday, Nov. 2, in Bismarck that it has opened its 2026 Name-A-Plow contest, inviting North Dakotans to suggest a name for a snowplow in their home district, according to the agency’s release.
NDDOT said entries will be accepted through Monday, Nov. 23, and can be submitted through its Name-A-Plow webpage. Names must be appropriate and fewer than 15 characters, the agency said. If multiple people submit the same name, NDDOT will consider the first entry received. Groups may submit names but must provide a contact person, according to the release.
NDDOT deputy director for engineering Matt Linneman said the contest connects residents with the work snowplow operators do and encourages attention to travel safety. He also asked the public to give plow operators space as they clear roads, according to the agency.
Team NDDOT will select one winner in each of the department’s eight districts in December, the release said. Winners will have an opportunity to meet plow operators and take a photo with the plow, according to NDDOT.
