The North Dakota Department of Transportation (NDDOT) has announced the temporary closure of all Driver License offices, including Bismarck, for staff training.

For Bismarck residents, the timing of the closure is particularly challenging. With the city serving as one of the busiest Driver License offices in the state, many residents are expected to face delays in scheduling appointments once the offices reopen.

Local driving schools and commercial driver training programs also anticipate rescheduling challenges for students preparing for licensing exams.

John Meyer, owner of a Bismarck driving school, added: “The closure is a hiccup for students who were ready for road tests, but we’re hopeful the training means smoother scheduling and processing in the future.”

The NDDOT has not announced the exact reopening date but confirmed offices will resume operations once training is complete. Residents are encouraged to check the NDDOT website and social media channels for updates and to use online services whenever possible.

For now, drivers in Bismarck and across North Dakota will need to adjust plans, with patience being the key as the state works toward improving its driver services.
