The University of Mary football team's trip east for the Battle for the Paddle ended in a 42-22 loss Saturday, Oct. 10, as Minnesota State Moorhead pulled away in the second half in Moorhead, according to the official University of Mary Athletics box score.
How It Went
Xavier Brackenridge broke a 31-yard touchdown run in the first quarter, and the game was tied 7-7 after one, per the box score. Moorhead outscored UMary 14-0 in the second quarter to lead 21-7 at halftime, then added 21 more points in the third.
Brackenridge answered with a 16-yard touchdown run in the third quarter, and Ryan Blair found Desmond Duffy on a 7-yard touchdown pass in the fourth, the box score shows. UMary held Moorhead scoreless in the fourth quarter, but the gap was too wide to close. By quarter, UMary scored 7-0-8-7 and Moorhead 7-14-21-0.
For the Dragons, quarterback Drew Huebner threw touchdown passes to Kalen Lucas, Seth Staloch, Kelly Johnson and Denzel Sutton, according to the box score.
The Paddle is one of two traveling trophies the Marauders play for each season, along with the Big Lake Trophy against Minot State, according to University of Mary Athletics. MSU Moorhead Athletics reported last October that the Dragons had held the trophy for 10 straight seasons after a 38-35 win in Bismarck; Saturday's result keeps it in Moorhead.
