Families in Bismarck–Mandan can get an early start on trick-or-treating at the Dakota Zoo. According to the zoo's event page, its Zoo Boo! Trick or Treat returns Saturday, Oct. 24, from 1 to 4 p.m.

The zoo describes Zoo Boo as an afternoon for kids to come in costume, collect treats from area businesses and visit the zoo's animals along the way. Its event page also lists treat booths, concessions and spooky decorations.

Zoo Boo is a fundraiser, the zoo says, so admission works differently than on a regular visit. The event page lists admission at $5 for all ages and states that, because it is a fundraising event, the fee applies to both members and non-members. Zoo memberships will not cover entry that afternoon.

The zoo's page also tells visitors to check its Schedule of Events for any changes to dates and times. That is worth doing before you head out.
