On Saturday, October 25, 2025, Bismarck locals gathered at The Pier Bar & Grill to take part in the annual Polar Plunge, diving into near-freezing river water to support Special Olympics North Dakota (SOND). The event drew dozens of participants dressed in costumes, emergency personnel, and cheering spectators.
“Our athletes look up to law enforcement more than people realize. Events like the Polar Plunge show them that their community stands behind them.”
“The water was freezing, but knowing it was for an incredible cause made the sting worth it. I’ll be back next year — maybe in an even crazier costume.”
“We do this every year because it matters. The cold lasts a few minutes, but the impact lasts all year for the athletes.”

Despite temperatures dipping near freezing, Bismarck once again showed its warmth through generosity and community spirit. The 2025 Polar Plunge not only raised thousands for Special Olympics athletes but also strengthened bonds between residents, law enforcement, and families across North Dakota. Planning for next year’s plunge has already begun — and more brave souls are expected to answer the call.
